"How are you?"

“How are you?” “I’m good, how are you?” “Good!”

Can we call BS on this morning routine? I am absolutely guilty of having this conversation multiple times a day in an office environment, but what is it telling us about the people we’re interacting with?

They don’t truly know what I am going through.

They aren’t interested in seeing me or hearing me.

I’m not worth their time.

We’ve all been there. It’s the polite thing to do! But what could it look like if we took the initiative to try something else?

“What was the highlight of your day yesterday?”

“What was the best meal you had in the last week?”

“What’s the weirdest dream you had lately?”

“What’s the best advice you got recently?”

These questions aren’t complicated, and they may seem intimidating, but by starting a conversation like this, you start to paint a picture in color as opposed to seeing it in black & white.

How would your working relationships look different if you tried to spark these conversations instead of the usual BS? Imagine how many things you’re going to find out you have in common with these daily strangers...
